Chief Executive Officer
Douglas C. Williams
Douglas C. Williams is President and Chief Executive Officer of Renewal, Inc., a non-profit, behavioral health, and community corrections organization that provides comprehensive programming empowering individuals for a successful reintegration into society. Renewal and its subsidiaries, Renewal Treatment, Inc.®, Lydia’s Place® and GETPAID, Inc.®, deliver alternative housing, specialized treatment in both drug and alcohol and mental health, and other reentry support services based on a cognitive behavioral approach that emphasizes accountability and responsibility of the individual.
In 2020 amidst the opioid epidemic, Renewal Inc. in partnership with Allegheny County opened a new state-of-the-art facility in downtown Pittsburgh. This facility is home to our Pathway to Care and Recovery and Safe Place to Stay Programs. Pathway to Care and Recovery is a certified assessment center open 24/7/365 and serves individuals with a substance use disorder. Individuals can walk in or call any time. The program’s team of expert staff, including those with lived experience, offer help and support to those in need.
Additionally, staff work with individuals to complete a comprehensive biopsychosocial intake assessment utilizing the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) criteria to make a level of care determination. Once the level of care is determined, staff work to find an appropriate treatment provider. In cases where immediate placement into a treatment facility are not available, individuals are provided a safe place to stay located on-site.
This temporary stay includes a private room, access to essential amenities such as bathroom facilities, showers, hot meals, laundry services, medical attention, and educational group sessions. Once the treatment bed becomes available, staff then provides a warm handoff of the individual to the identified program.
Williams joined Renewal in 2003. Under his leadership, the organization has demonstrated significant growth, and has become a respected model for holistic rehabilitation and reentry programming. Renewal delivers tens of millions of dollars in annual economic impact through its efforts in Southwestern Pennsylvania, supporting hundreds of jobs. Its contributions to substantially reduced recidivism rates have ultimately resulted in large cost savings for Allegheny County and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
With 49 years of experience in the human service and corrections field, Williams has proven capabilities overseeing and improving organizational operations, including day-to-day leadership and planning. He has extensive knowledge of grant and approval processes and is responsible for securing contracts with the County, State and Federal systems. That expertise developing relationships with state and county legislators and governmental entities has been instrumental in furthering Renewal’s growth trajectory in the corrections and behavioral health fields.
Williams earned his Master’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh. He is a well-known and active voice and advocate.
